As a long-time admirer of artist Mickalene Thomas’ work, I had the privilege of collaborating with her on a photoshoot with award-winning actor and director Regina King. Thomas redefines the Black female muse that infuses her canvases with radical femininity while challenging the male gaze narrative. Her women pleasure themselves, revealing what makes them sources of endless inspiration. King, chosen for her strength and authentic self-possession, embodies strength and inspiration. This collaboration transcends traditional perspectives capturing the essence of female empowerment and showcasing the convergence of Thomas' artistic vision, my photography, and King's allure.
