Born in Sun Valley, Idaho, Willis was raised between the mountainous stillness of the West and the cultural currents of Los Angeles and New York. From an early age, music and self-expression were central to her world. Though her last name carries weight, her artistry speaks for itself—she isn’t interested in playing into expectations or resting on lineage. Instead, she has built her own narrative, one shaped by introspection, vulnerability, and an unwavering sense of self.

Scout’s music is a mix of folk-inflected harmonies and stripped-down instrumentation. Her 2022 solo debut album was intimate, atmospheric, and confessional, channeling influences from Joni Mitchell to Cat Power while remaining unmistakably her own. Songs like Love Without Possession showcase her songwriting instincts and ability to weave emotional depth into haunting melodies.

Scout Willis defies easy categorization. She is a musician, an artist, an independent spirit who has chosen sincerity over spectacle. Scout remains refreshingly real—a songwriter who sings what she feels and means what she says. Her music isn’t about chasing fame; it’s about capturing something true. And in that pursuit, she has found her voice.

I had the privilege of spending the day photographing Scout, then watching her perform that night in New York City. Later, we sat down to talk about her music, inspirations, and channeling goddesses.
