AS IF: Cynthia, here we are, nearly a decade after The Accountant wowed audiences, with the second installment, The Accountant 2. When did you first hear a sequel was happening?
Cynthia Addai-Robinson: There had always been talk of a sequel, and I think that was the intention from the start, but as an actor, you can’t assume anything. I mentally moved on, especially as the years went by. I had other great opportunities and projects come along. Then, after the strike, at the end of 2023, I heard from our original producer saying, We’re coming back. Even then, I didn’t know what kind of role I’d have. I assumed it was a cameo. But then I read the script, and learned my character was pivotal. That was exciting. The character had evolved in tandem with me. After eight years, I’d grown as a person and a performer, and I could bring all that experience to this new version of Marybeth—older, wiser, more grounded. Ultimately, the timing felt right, even if I wished it had happened sooner.
