Client: Van Cleef & Arpels
Van Cleef & Arpels invited me to create a spring-themed photo series to highlight their singular jewelry. I envisioned their pieces held by hands, also cradling objects emblematic of the season. To bring this to life, I designed a simple, color-blocked set featuring three spring-inspired hues that would make the jewelry stand out. Makeup artist Renée Garnes painted my arms and hands in matching tones, creating the illusion of sleek, fitted gloves.
Initially, I worked with hand models, but the positioning required to maneuver their arms through backdrop cutouts proved challenging. Ultimately, I stepped in as my own model. I set up each shot, then positioned myself behind the seamless backdrop, using a tethered computer to fine-tune my movements and composition for every frame.
